Negative Calorie Foods? Wow! Sounds like a great thing to me! Over a decade ago, a new term entered the diet world — negative calorie foods. The thought is that any food that requires more calories to digest and burn than its actual food content is a negative calorie food and will cause you to lose weight. For example, some claim a stem a broccoli has 20 calories but takes 100 calories to chew and digest. There has been very little — if any — reliable research on this. The truth is vegetables and fruits are wholesome, nutrient-dense foods that are good for you. Regardless if the negative caloric effect is true or not, you should still have a well-rounded nutrition plan including lots of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grain carbohydrates, and a little fat.
