Ah, the Montana smoke-filled summers. Although this summer has not been too bad, there is still a noticeable smoke in the air. When working out outdoors, the body reacts differently to polluted air. During cardio, most breathing is through the mouth which is not as efficient at filtering pollutants compared to breathing through the nose. Thus, pollutants enter our bloodstream causing breathing restrictions and less oxygen transportation and absorption. Although the weather is warm and inviting, your physical performance is compromised. A better option is the cool and not-so-crowded gym at this time of year.
